%K LANDSAT, erosão costeira, delta, Área de Preservação Permanente.
%X This study aims to evaluate coastal geomorphological changes occurring over the past 26 years along the delta of Rio Sao Mateus at Conceição da Barra, north coast of Espirito Santo state, based on multi-temporal analysis of Landsat satellite imagery. We also accessed the influence of climate and waves conditions over the destruction of urban area. The region, which economy is based on tourism, has been subjected to consecutive events of coastal erosion. The municipality has 14.09% of its the area classified as a Permanent Preservation Area and coastal erosion is destroying the national propriety. Identified coastal changes can be associated to the prevailing climate conditions as observed from wave climate and pluviosity historical data sets. As a delta-estuarine system, the region is highly dynamic and unstable by nature. It was observed that shifts in wind direction and wave energy patterns were the main factors to promoted the migration and partial destruction of sand spit, which was located in the Bugia province coastline. There coastal erosion continued and further destroyed part of its urban residential area.
